First Week Home

It's now been about a week since we came home and for me it's so much easier being home and taking care of Baby K. The recovery from the C Section is slow and often painful but I just work better without having a million hands touching me and baby all day long. So far Kherington is doing really well and she has a pretty regular routine of every 3 hours.

Loving one of the head bands Aunt Lara made for her

Grandma and Grandpa H with K and cousin Summit

With cousins Ali Sandra and Summit ( She's our little Indian baby)

WE LOVE HER!

Little Miss Kherington

I would like to introduce to you the newest addition to our family!

Kherington Elise Hepworth
Born on October 8, 2013
7:02 PM
9 lbs. 21 inches long

September 29th (my due date) came and went and there was still no sign of baby K coming. After a visit with my doctor and being dilated only at a 1 for the fifth week in a row we decided to give her until she was 9 days over to get induced. The nine days quickly passed with still no change. On Oct 7th I was admitted in the hospital and the journey began.

We got to the hospital at 5 pm
I got to my room at 6 pm
They took a blood sample at 7 pm
By that point I felt like they were never going to get my baby out of me

By 10 pm they started me on a dose of Cytotec.
At 2 am the nurses came in to check me
*I feel like every labor story has to include an incompetent nurse.... I was very blessed with a few nurses that I just ADORED!!!. BUT my story isn't an exception. I feel like when ever (let's call her Wreck it Ralph) came into the room she caused me UNNECESSARY pain and stressed me out because she didn't know what she was doing.

I was fortunate enough to have a Fix it Felix that came up behind her cleanign up her mess.

At 2 am, after waking me up and spending NO JOKE five minutes checking me in the most painful way she knew how, she told me that the four hours of contractions I had just gone through were for nothing and that I was still at a 1. I am so glad Felix questioned her because I was on the downward slope to a emotional outburst. Felix checked me and instantly said, " She is at a 4/5 and about 60%"

Hallelujah! Progress!

They decided to skip my second dose of Cytotec and I had to wait until 6 am to be put on Pitocin.

A little while after that I decided an epidural was something I was going to need to get.
After pumping me with fluids and waiting for the anesthesiologist I was ready to go to the happy place I had heard so much about. It took the anesthesiologist 7 times poking me in the spine to finally find the "sweet spot". By that point I didn't even care, The happy place was fabulous!

Judd and I spent all morning and early afternoon hanging out and watching Grey's Anatomy.

By 2 pm nurse Crystal came in to check me. With a huge smile on her face she let me know I was completely dilated. That's when I knew Crystal and I were going to be best friends!

They didn't have me start pushing until 3 pm. But because the epidural was so amazing I was having trouble pushing without the urge to. So they took me off of it, and then the nightmare began.

Three hours later Dr. Lindbloom finally got there. After being present for a couple pushes he told me that Baby K was positioned wrong, her head was pointed upwards and to the side so she was stuck behind my pelvic bone. The Dr. told me that I would have to have a C Section. I was exhausted, emotional and in tremendous pain it seemed like I was contracting every 30 seconds. After that it seemed like everyone was moving in triple speed getting everything ready for my surgery.

*Side note* I don't know why people try to talk to a woman when she is contracting, stupidest thing ever. I became enemies with a nun that would come EVERY DAY at the most inappropriate, inconvenient time.

They got me on the surgical bed and wheeled me into the O.R. where I had to say bye to Judd for a few minutes. Just in that time I realized how much I needed Judd as my support. Going through a contraction without a hand to hold is unbearable. I don't know how some women do it.

Everything was amazing after they finished my spinal tap. It worked instantly and I was able to relax as they prepped me for surgery. Judd was able to come back and it didn't feel like it was very long until we heard "There it is, LOOK AT ALL THAT HAIR"
"It's a girl!"

 With nurse Crystal

We did it!!!

They put me back together again, monitored me for an hour, cleaned me up and then wheeled me down to the nursery. After getting me in my room they brought her to me and I fell in love instantly.

Baby K, was not a happy camper for the first 12 hours of her life. I would be upset too if my head was being smashed into someone pelvic bone for five hours!!

Under the lights for her Jaundice

We finally able to go home on Friday Oct 11th. I was super excited to get out of that bed and get some fresh air!! She slept the whole 70 miles home!!

6 weeks left!

A few days ago I was on the phone with my mom and she said something that hit me pretty hard. We were talking about pregnancy, labor, what to expect, her experiences etc. and she said to me, "This is the last 6 weeks you will ever have. After these short weeks you will be a mother for the rest of ETERNITY"  Of course I have always known this but it made me stop, breath, and realize that it's okay with me to have 6 more weeks. It's all we have left of just being Judd and D'laney.

So... me being me... I decided to write a list of things I wanted to do by myself or with Judd that I wont be able to do for a real long time or EVER AGAIN. Here's my list so far. Feel free to suggest what I'm missing.

1. Take a nap
2. Go on a walk alone
3. Eat a meal in peace
4. Cook without distractions
5. Read a book
6. Sleep all night
7. Go to the movies
8. Go to a sit down, not child friendly restaurant with Judd
9. Talk to Judd without interruptions
10. Pedicure
11. Blast MY music in the car
12. Spend money on myself
13. Have an all day date with Judd (dinner/movie)
14. Go shopping and take time looking around

To be honest some of these will be hard for me. Since we are all about living to our budget I can't imagine doing all these fun things in 6 weeks BUT the stubborn side of me just wants to show Judd that buying a breast pump isn't "BUYING SOMETHING FOR MYSELF"

So... Yesterday we started checking things off our list.
Judd and I drove up to Aberdeen, SD for the Brown County Fair. The cool thing about this fair, that I've never seen anywhere else, is that it's FREE parking and FREE admission. We walked around, watched a BMX Extreme Sport Show (11-17 yr old kids doing some flips off a jump), watched a bit of a magic show and Stunt Dog Show, and we walked through all the exhibits. It was kinda a lot of walking for my poor feet but with a stop at the food vendors I was good-to-go after a Navajo taco and Strawberry Pina Colada shaved ice. I was also saved by a stop at the "Massage Pillow" exhibit. comfy seat, lower back and feet massaged, fan in my face, PERFECTION! All I needed was for the sales woman to stop talking.

After watching the Brown County Royalty competition and realizing both candidates were awarded Queen we said good bye to the fair and stopped by Target for some shopping. (It's sad when you walk through the whole store saying "lets buy something fun" and the only thing you pick up is baby soap and onsies) After going to Culvers for a late dinner and filling up on gas and buying some treats (dont judge) we were on our way home. When we got to Redfield, we passed their drive-in theater and saw they were just starting "Despicable Me 2" I have been wanting to see that show for awhile now so Judd, being his spontaneous self, flipped around and we cuddled in the back seat and watched a hilarious movie!

I'm going to miss this time so much! Being able to drop whatever and have a full day with just my husband, being able to have good long conversations in the car, being spontaneous and not having to plan around feeding times and dirty diapers but while I was laying in bed last night feeling my baby jabbing me in the ribs for the millionth time I thought, our life is just going to get better and better.

My 101 List

Before I mentioned my "101 List". This is something my older sister Destry told me about back in 2009. You write 101 things you want to do in 1001 days. I wrote one back in 2009, did pretty good at it. And then I wrote another one on October 1st 2012. I have until Fall of 2015 to complete as many as I can. Here's what I've done so far.

#2 Fall in Love

Interestingly enough, this was one of the first ones I got crossed off. Since I wrote this list three days before Judd and I officially became "Boyfriend-Girlfriend"

#6 Get married in the House of the Lord

#7 Spend Christmas with my family

After being out of the country for two Christmases in a row I was dying to spend Christmas with my family. Of course I didn't get very many pics but this is Judd and I on our Christmas date with my parents at the Davenport Hotel.

#8 Read all Hunger Games books

When I came home from my mission EVERYONE was talking about HUNGER GAMES. Probably because the movie just came out. It took me a while to get out of the mission zone and get into reading a book. BUT I'm proud to say I completed the series on March 28th 2013

#9 Learn how to drive stick.
I'm not the greatest but when we first got married we only had a Mitsubishi Lancer that was manual. Judd gave me some lessons.... most didn't end very good

#10 Buy my own car
When I first wrote this I was imagining myself buying a really cheap car cause I was single. I never got one while I was single but this car really is in my name :) I just don't pay for it. That's what my sugar daddy is for.

#16 Go to Maine and visit the Hursts -March 2013
#19 Do a session in the Salt Lake City Temple- December 2012
#21 See Christmas Lights on Temple Square-Decemeber 2012
#25 Go on a planned out road trip

Those are the ones I wrote up before J and I got married. Since then I've completed.
#30 Make a baby blanket
#31 Fully unpack in Miller, SD- May 2013
#44 Buy Judd power drills-June 2013
#52 Scrapbook Wedding-July 2013

Thanks to Snapfish.com I finally got this done in one day-July 2013

#59 Make a Book Shelf out of Pallets-July 2013
#61 Make a Home Management Binder (Yeah I'm a nerd:)

One location to find your: To do list, shopping list, menu plan for the month, Church calling responsibilities, Finances, Goals and Current Projects. Who wouldn't want one of these???? ;)

#67 Get internet

#82 Go to the Bismarck Temple-July 20, 2013

A couple weeks ago Judd surprised me by writing "Go to the temple" on my chalkboard To Do List. That Saturday we traveled the 4 hours to Bismarck and had a WONDERFUL time there. We are in love with Bismarck now. I am so grateful of my husband's testimony of the power you receive by attending the temple. Seriously it's been somewhere he has been taking me since our third date! I love him :)

#84 Get a Miller Library Card
Sadly they don't give you an actual card in Miller but I signed up and have been checking out books for a month now. It's a cute little library. I can't wait to take our little one there in a few years.

That's what I've completed so far!!! 19 down.... 82 more to go.. Yikes I'm falling behind.

Next Few Projects

One of my biggest weaknesses is SEWING! When I was younger I of course attended the Achievement Day and Young Women activities when we did sewing and I LOVED it but, I never developed a strong talent in it. BUT that doesn't mean I don't try. Something that has been on my "101 List" for a few years is to make a baby blanket. Well with 9 more weeks to go with my pregnancy I decided this is the time to do it.

I decided I should just stick with something simple. All I needed was some gray minky fabric, coral chevron fabric, some pins and my mother-in-law's sewing machine.

My original plan was to stitch this elephant on one of the corners. I guess I lost motivation, got to frustrated and had no clue how to do it. SO it didn't get done. But I am happy to report I can now cross off #86 on my 101 List.

So our little home right now has a living room with wood paneling. To kinda dress it up a little more I've added a few damask elements.

On Saturday since Judd was working I got to work on a pallet wall hanging that I've been dying to make. Judd so kindly tore apart some pallets for me and nailed some together to make a nice sized wall hanging. I used some stencils that I had already from a wedding themed scrapbooking kit. To make this...

Then, while Judd and I were watching the motel for Jeanine and Lyman I patiently drew up and painted some cursive letters.

Painting those letters was probably the most stressful thing I've done in awhile. But it's DONE!!

The next project was a simple and fast one. Just what I like! My in laws had this old black filing cabinet in their garage that had collected some not so attractive features over the years (random Christmas stickers). My hubby so kindly snagged it for me.

Do you see what it used to look like... over there hidden behind the couch :)

Well now it looks like this...

So easy and makes all the difference!
