Our Home In Miller

It's been 2 1/2 months since we moved into our little house here in Miller. (AND WE FINALLY GOT INTERNET!!!)  Since then I have been searching on Pinterest to figure out how exactly I wanted to decorate our house and make it a HOME.

Here are some pics I took shortly after moving in.

Here is our "entertainment center" of the living room.

Thanks to my in-laws that lent us their comfy couch we have furniture to fill up the space.

I found this table at a local "Finders Keepers" Antique shop. It came with two leaves all for $50. I was pretty excited about it. This table usually is covered in a giant mess whether it be my Primary materials or my latest attempt of a craft.
When we moved in the shower had one of those sliding glass doors. After one shower in it I said, "Adios". The funky part about our cute little home is that you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the baby's room... oh well
I love having my own kitchen! Knowing exactly where everything is. psst. Don't tell Judd but I secretly love when he has to ask me where to find something. I've even grown fond of the homey orange color in it. :)

Since living here and finding out we are having a girl, I will shamelessly admit that I have caught the "mommy" bug.  A lot of my projects are pretty homely but the thing I'm proud about is that I didn't have to break the bank while supporting my addiction.

Here is the journey Judd and I took to make a baby dresser.

Miller, SD has this pretty awesome tradition of having a "City-wide Rummage Sale". On one rainy Saturday we got a map of the city and where people were having rummage sales ( or what I and my fellow Washingtonians like to call a Yard Sales) We drove around town hitting the best ones first and on our last stop of the day we came across this beauty for 10 BUCKS!
Well it didn't really scream baby girl so we got to work.

Judd is a very amazing husband with many skills in the carpentry world. He knows about things I've never heard of. And as I describe what we did I'm going to feel like a fake but here goes.  Since I wasn't a fan of the antique brass handles we removed those and use some...."Wood filler" and got out the sander to remove the lacquer and old stain.

Then my dear Hubby painted the whole thing with a White Satin finish spray paint.

After painting new knobs here is the finished look.

The next project was a matching changing table. We got it for the lovely price of FREE NINETY-FREE!!

With some paint, canvas boxes from Wal Mart and a new cover for the pad here's what he came up with.

Something I've always wanted was a book shelf made out of pallets. So.. I sent my hubby out on a search for free pallets in town.

He never disappoints!

I also found some time to finally print out and frame some of our wedding pictures.

Something else we scored at the Rummage Sale was a car seat. Thanks to Jack and Alyssa that was also free of cost. It had a Winnie The Pooh cover that just needed to go. I feel like I bit more off than I could chew with this project. With a limited knowledge of sewing I started making a new cover.
I'm proud to say it only took me two days AND I was able to hold in all the swear words that entered my mind in the process. It's not perfect but I now have a gray minky car seat cover to match the gray and lavendar car seat canopy I purchased with a 100% off coupon.
I think picking a nursery theme was harder for me than choosing colors for my wedding. But I have always loved elephants so it only made sense. I saw on pinterest a cool way of making fake canvas boards from old shoe boxes.
And I got a pattern to sew some stuffed elephants. Unfortunately I made them before asking to borrow a sewing machine so they are hand-stitched.
I gotta show you a close up of Judd's baby pic on the dresser.
:) If our baby looks anything like him she will be the cutest baby ever.

I just pray that when our baby does come we don't get a gender surprise, or our boy will be sleeping in a pink room and wearing dresses for the first 2 years of his life.
